Warming Up
Warming Up Now that the colder weather is upon us it’s time to get serious about your pre game warm up routine. Most of us are pretty slack when it comes to warming up before a match, preferring to use the hit up at the start of the game to loosen those joints & muscles as well as the ball. The trouble is this often isn’t quite enough, especially if you’ve hit that time in your life when the body takes a little more time to get going. Try getting ready 15 minutes earlier for your game & going outside for a run (make sure you wear a warm tracksuit) – I often do this, especially when it’s really cold. This gets your heart racing & your blood pumping so that your muscles are warm for a few stretches before you go on court. I’m not saying go for a 5km run, just a short jog around the park or down the street, enough to get you breathing hard. Don’t overdo it, otherwise you won’t have enough energy left for the game. Once you get on the court, keep your track suit on during the warm up until you’re ready to start the 1st game. It’s amazing how well you’ll do against an opponent who is cold & slow off the mark – They’ll be one step behind the ball all the time, whereas you should be right there! It also helps ward off those painful muscle & ligament injuries! Happy Squashing - Dawn
