Attacking Boast

Attacking Boast There are a number of different boasts – depending on where you, your opponent, or the ball, are positioned on the court. Basically though you can narrow it down to attacking or defensive. The defensive boast is that which most of us attempt at some time in a game after our opponent has placed the ball perfectly into the back corner. The attacking boast however, is a shot that we often forget about in the heat of the battle and yet is one of the most lethal shots we can play. The front court attacking boast can be played instead of a straight or cross court drop. Set up as though playing a drop, hold the shot to draw your opponent forward & behind you & at the last moment boast off the side wall. The mid court attacking boast should be played either when your opponent has just played a loose shot & is stuck behind you, or is recovering backwards to the T from the front of the court. You either force them to travel the length of the court to retrieve the ball, or catch them with their weight on their back foot & momentum carrying them away from the ball. The attacking boast from the back of the court should only be played when your opponent is getting tired & is spending most of their time well behind the mid court line. This is when playing a patient game tight & deep down the side walls pays off & lulls them into a false sense of security. Remember, the boast is basically a drive into the side wall & the attacking boast should be kept low so that it hits the front wall just above the tin. Try not to play it too often as your opponent will soon start to read your game – mix it up to keep them guessing. Happy Squashing - Dawn
