Control

Control Summer is coming, or so we hope, the temperature is getting warmer and the ball is getting bouncier. I really enjoy playing squash in warmer weather – the rallies last longer and getting that great feeling of working hard on the court comes so much easier. However tempting it may be, hitting the ball harder is not usually the best tactic when it’s warm. Control is more important than ever – controlling the length and not over hitting, controlling the drop so the ball isn’t sitting up for your opponent to play a winner off and controlling those lobs so the ball doesn’t fly out the top of the court. Try lifting the ball higher on the front wall, taking a bit of the pace off and you’ll find you get good length with less effort, you get more time to clear the ball, the ball won’t bounce off the back wall so far and your opponent will be the one trying to dig the ball out of the back corners.
