Summer Training
Summer Training For those of us who live in NZ, and are looking forward to summer, now is the time to start thinking about putting a plan together to improve your game for next year. A lot of players hang up their racket for the summer. By the time they get back a bit of fitness the next year, the season is half over. I suggest that if you want to get the most out of your squash, look to train properly over the next 4 months. You should go see a professional trainer to get a balanced programme, but it is quite hard to find someone who knows the right balance of stuff to do for squash. Depending on how much time you have, and how committed you are, I would make the following rough plans. This would be for a week. 2-3 gym sessions to work mainly on core strength, and flexibility. (1 hour each) 1-3 routines sessions working on technique, control, and some cardio fitness. (1 hour each) 1-3 aerobic court sessions working on court movement, speed, and cardio fitness. (15-45 minutes) 1-2 solo practice working on skills and control (15-30 minutes) 1 match 1 session with your coach. Most people don’t have the time, interest or commitment to do all of the above, but however much time you are prepared to put in, I suggest that you follow a ratio based on the above weekl. Cheers Rob
