Cheating
Cheating To cheat or not to cheat- that is the question? I want to challenge your thoughts this week on what is acceptable and what isn’t on the court. Most people accept that you should call your double bounces, and stop when you hit the ball out. If you don’t do this don’t read on, because you are not going to agree with the next bit. Your parents didn’t bring you up properly and I hope you get a nasty disease. What I want to talk about this week is trying to bleed a stroke from the ref when you know it is a let, or asking for a let when you know you wouldn’t have got there, or appealing on balls you know were in from your opponent etc. Basically trying to put pressure on the ref to make a bad call in your favour. To my mind this is straight cheating, and there is no need for it. I know we have all done it at times, but as I have got older and hopefully wiser, I feel quite strongly that it is not in the spirit of the game, and that we should all try to play fair. We will all enjoy the game more if we stick to a hard but fair attitude. Refs have to put up with enough pressure without us putting more on them. Cheers Rob
