Practising Hitting Tight Length

Practising Hitting Tight Length Hitting tight length is the key to setting up any rally, but how often do we practise it? One really good way to practise is to get some tape and put a strip of about 2 metres on the court. Stick it down at the back of the court parallel to the side walls, maybe 2-5 boards out from the side walls, depending on your grade. You can practise hitting the ball in this area on each side on your own by seeing how many balls you can land in this area in 5 or 10 minutes each side. Or you can practise in pairs, and see who is the first to 20 or whatever number takes your fancy. Practise this firstly by letting it go to the back, rather than volleying. A progression is with a choice of volleying the loose shot, but make sure you go to the "T" and don't cheat by just chopping your opponents shot off because you haven't returned to the centre. The summer is a perfect time to work on those skills, so get stuck in. Happy Squashing Rob Walker
