The Courage To Take The Path Least Travelled
- The Courage To Take The Path Least Travelled. I have had the pleasure in the last few years of watching the improvement of Martin Knight. He has just made the NZ mens side for the world champs this year, and is 21. Martins progress has been based on getting the right advice from our very accomplished National Coach, and then TAKING IT! This involves all the things that you would expect- technical, tactical, strategic, diet, resting, doing all the required training that is laid down for him, learning from your mistakes, rehabbing after injury etc etc etc. It is not rocket science, but humans being humans, not many have the discipline to do what is required to be a professional squash player. I have seen him drinking water when around him there is a sea of booze. I see him eating and drinking all the right things at the right times. I see him heading off to sleep when those around him are tempted by perhaps more interesting choices. These are the choices of a champion. There are plenty of years left after a sports career to do the normal stuff. To Martin, and those like him who have chosen the path least traveled, I salute you. I hope others see your example, and follow it.
