Warming Up and Cooling Down

Warming Up and Cooling Down For years I, along with many others, did static stretching to warm up and down. However, the modern thinking is that static stretching before you play is counter productive to performance. The recommended warm up involves the sort of movement that you would do on a court. So start off with jogging, then move in to some light lunging into the corners. Then have your warm up 5 minute hit. Then I strongly suggest the boast and drive routine, throwing in some volley boasts to get you moving. Then you should be ready for full play. You should do plenty of static stretching after you play. That is when you will get the improvements in flexibility you need for a game like squash. And remember, the older you get, the more preparation you need to do, not less!
