Banana – Nature’s Energy Bar

 

Health & Fitness Tip: Banana – Nature’s Energy Bar The humble banana is a great food choice to boost your energy prior to a workout or as a post-workout snack. Banana’s contain about 400kJ of energy (depending on ripeness most of this is quick releasing energy), this is similar to a Moro or Mars bar but is a healthier choice, as banana’s also contain a large number of vitamin’s (especially B vitamins but also Vit C). Banana’s also contain the minerals potassium, magnesium and calcium which are all required for energy release, muscular contraction and avoiding cramp. Bananas are also a good source of non-haem iron for those on a vegetarian diet. Bananas are also low in total and saturated fats. To top it all off bananas are natural and come in an environmentally friendly biodegradable packaging. Banana Vitality Drink Blend together 150mL natural low fat yoghurt, 1 large peeled banana, juice from 2 oranges. Garnish with banana slices dipped in lemon juice and a little wheatgerm. This will take no more than 5min to drink and provide you with 1046kJ of energy and contains less than 7% fat. Strange Banana fact: The banana plant isn’t a tree; it is the worlds largest herb. The trunk isn’t wood. It is created from thick leaves wrapped tightly together in overlapping layers. Remember that one when you are a contestant on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire!!!
