Squash, Training, Heart Attacks Etc
Squash and Fitness Tip Squash, Training, Getting older, Heart Attacks etc We have all heard of people who have said that a lot of people die of heart attacks on the squash court, therefore squash must be bad !. Firstly in my extensive experience at squash clubs I have never seen one. Secondly, it is not the squash that is causing the heart attacks, it is heart disease. If you are in your 40s or 50s and would like to get your heart checked out so that you can continue to go hard on the court, or in the gym or whatever without worring, here is some advice. Get a stress ECG from somewhere like the Dominion Clinic on the Terrace in Wellington. I just had it done and it was $400 well spent. It took two hours, and you leave knowing if you have already had a heart attack(one quarter of people don’t know they have had one ). This is done during a resting ECG, then the stress ECG on a treadmill will indicate what likelihood you are of having blocked arteries, which causes the attacks. I could go on in more detail, but it was fascinating, and Dennis Smith the doctor was really great. If you want to know more just give me a call. If you want to contact them you can call them on 04 473 0720. Cheers. Rob. Squash Tip by Rob Walker-long time Manager of Cub Kelburn, AGrade Player, successful coach and player manager.
