Be Careful in the Front Quarter
Be Careful in the Front Quarter The front quarter of the court is a dangerous zone to be playing a short shot (front shot) into quite often. The problem is that if you don’t do a good short shot, your opponent will be able to smash it past you and probably win the rally before you have time to get to the T and cover all the corners. If you are feeling confident and think your opponent is on the back foot covering the back corners a good drop or boast is a good shot. But in general I favour trying to play a hard shot that ‘dies’ at the back of the court. A good alternative is a hard hit boast that looks like it is going to be driven deep. Instead your shot dies across the front of the court and your opponent is on the back foot covering a hard kill shot. If you are chasing down a good short shot by your opponent to the front, either try and hit it straight down the wall if you are under pressure or try and put a good lob shot up. A good lob will give you time to recover to the middle of the court and get back in the rally. Cheers Rob
